Clinics set to teach PBA stars to stay away from trouble with taxman

    Apr 1, 2013

TO educate players on the importance and schematics of paying taxes, Commissioner Chito Salud will introduce a tax clinic starting this year.

PBA media bureau chief Willie Marcial told that all players from the 10 ballclubs will be mandated to attend the clinic at the Bureau of Internal Revenue complex in Quezon City on April 8 beginning at 10 a.m.

“Mandatory yan, lahat pinapapunta namin,” said Marcial, who likened the importance of the players’ appearance to the annual All Star activities.

“Obligado silang pumunta lahat dyan. Kasi ito ang way para malaman nila kung paano ang magbayad ng tax ng tama. Madalas kasi hindi alam nung players yung tamang sistema.”

The league has already planned the tax clinic since last year, even before Talk 'N Text stars Jimmy Alapag and Jared Dillinger were implicated in a tax evasion case by the BIR.

The two have since reportedly settled their obligation.

“Yun ang gusto naming maiwasan rito, kaso naunahan pa kami. Saka tulong na rin ito sa BIR at sa gobyerno ng PBA,” added the PBA official.
