CLIFF Hodge was all over the place for Meralco on Tuesday, providing the Bolts with energy all-game long in their 85-74 victory over Barangay Ginebra at the start of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Mall of Asia Arena.

    It must be the socks.

The Bolts’ sparkplug wore a pair that didn’t match, with a pink-colored shade on the left and a black one on the other.

Asked to explain the mismatch, Hodge said we he was just trying to protect his injured left ankle.

“It’s no science or anything, but my left ankle kind of hurts so I wanted to put more compression on that side,” the Bolts forward explained to Spin.ph after the game.

It was no fashion statement or superstition either.

“Nah. But it looked nice, I guess.”

Despite nursing an injury, the 6-foot-5 Hodge had the hops to register three impressive blocks, one against Ginebra import Michael Dunigan, who’s taller than the Meralco power forward by nearly four inches.

Hodge, who also scattered 11 boards and six points in 34 minutes, said he was pumped up not only because they played against the league’s most popular team, but also because the Bolts wanted to start the conference on the right foot.

“Every team in the PBA loves going against Ginebra, but we also just wanted to start the conference on a high note,” said Hodge, who turns 26 on February 3.
