CJ PEREZ won in his first battle with Robert Bolick since the Fiba Basketball World Cup as he led Columbian to a 114-108 win over NorthPort on Wednesday in the PBA Governors’ Cup at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Perez tallied 26 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists to lift the Dyip to their second win in three outings while atoning for their defeat to Rain or Shine the last time out.
All eyes were on the Perez-Bolick match-up after the two rookies stood out during Gilas Pilipinas' campaign in the Fiba Basketball World Cup.
Perez also got some help in the match from Columbian import Khapri Alston, who finished with 25 points and 17 rebounds and led the 16-2 run that enabled the Dyip to seize an 84-76 lead in the third quarter.
Bolick led the Batang Pier with 23 points, seven rebounds, and 10 assists but it was not enough as they fell to 1-2.
“Sabi ko we need to beat this team if we want to go to the quarterfinals,” said Columbian coach Johnedel Cardel.
The Dyip responded to Cardel’s call particularly in the third period when they outscored the Batang Pier, 38-25, to enter the final period ahead, 90-85. Columbian extended the lead to 108-99 on Eric Camson's three-pointer.
Camson scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds while Glenn Khobuntin added 11 points before going down with an injury to his right knee.
Mo Tautuaa had 22 points and 14 rebounds, and Garvo Lanete tallied 19 points on 4-of-9 shoting from threes, but the Batang Pier were unable to protect a 12-point first-quarter lead.
