COLUMBIAN veterans believe the Dyip will be a much-better team with the addition of three rookies led by 2018 PBA draft top pick CJ Perez.
Columbian guard Rashawn McCarthy said he is impressed with the way Perez and the rest of the rookies are playing so far with the Dyip.
“I think we’ll be much improved,” McCarthy told Spin.ph during the first PBA Media Day held at Solaire Resort and Casino on Thursday.
McCarthy said he wants the former NCAA MVP to assert himself in his rookie season with the Dyip like he did in college.
“He’s a very good player, all-around player. So I expect him to be the same player in the PBA,” McCarthy said.
The two other rookies in JP Calvo and Jeepy Faundo have also been doing well for Columbian, according to Jackson Corpuz.
“’Yung tatlong rookie talaga namin laging maaga. Call time kasi namin lagi 8 am, mga 6:30 pa lang ata nandun na sila … nagshu-shooting na sila,” he said.
With Columbian focusing on defense and a fast-paced offense, McCarthy and Jackson believe can turn Columbian into a more competitive team.
“I think we’re faster team, younger team. We’re deeper team, I feel,” McCarthy said.
“Ibang-iba na ‘yung Columbian dati at saka sa Columbian ngayon,” Jackson said. Eugene Flores
