‘NO days off’ went too far for CJ Perez for the past few months, but the PBA Best Player of the Conference and Finals MVP isn’t complaining.
“Hindi pa ako nagpapahinga simula 2023,” he said after the San Miguel Beer won the 2023 Commissioner’s Cup title on Game 6 Wednesday night.

The 30-year-old Perez had back-to-back duties with Gilas Pilipinas and his club team in the past year. Despite the restless grind, he wouldn’t have it any other way.
“Very blessed na early in my career dumarating yung mga ganitong blessing sa'kin, hindi madali, maraming pawis, maraming sama ng loob,” he explained.
Last year, Perez suited up for Gilas in the Southeast Asian Games redemption tour in Cambodia, played in Fiba World Cup, and won the Asiad gold medal with the Tim Cone-led squad.
Keeping it real, CJ knows his time is now and no open door should be left unentered.
“Habang bata pa, binibigay ko yung makakaya ko, minsan lang dumating sa buhay natin kaya kailangan i-grab natin lahat ng opportunity,” he said.
And after a night of glory, duty calls once again as the 12-man Gilas pool begins its first day of practice on Thursday, February 15.
Perez jokes: “Bukas, ‘pag di ako nalasing mamaya, pupunta ako sa practice.”
