HE is likely the least known player among the 44 hopefuls in the PBA Rookie Draft, yet Christian Geronimo didn't mind.
Rather than regret not trying at all, Geronimo is taking his chances no matter how slim it maybe in a rookie pool featuring Kiefer Ravena, Christian Standhardinger, Jeron Teng, among others.
That's why when he decided to leave his job as a car sales agent at Mazda a year ago, Geronimo dedicated the months that followed gearing up for the draft on October 29.
"Naging sales agent ako sa Mazda dati pero nag-resign ako a year ago. Talagang nagpa-kondisyon ako para dito sa draft," he said.
The 5-11 cager from Pasay City is not entirely new to top-level basketball, having played in college leagues with the Polytechnic University of the Philippines.
That didn't keep him from feeling starstruck playing alongside celebrated amateur stars like Ravena and Jason Perkins.
"Okay naman po, nag-enjoy naman ako. Na-starstruck sa mga kasama ko kasi pinapanood ko lang sila dati sa TV," he said.
"Sobrang nakaka-overwhelm at kinabahan ako. Pero iniisip ko na lang kailangan ko itong gawin, dream ko talagang makapaglaro sa PBA."
While he's not letting that sidetrack him, Geronimo has yet to impress in the annual showcase among hopefuls. Geronimo went scoreless in the first two scrimmages where he played with Ravena and Co.
"Medyo nangangapa pa ako. Talagang kinakabahan ako kanina pero at least nakasabay ako sa kanila," he said, describing the former Ateneo star as kind and friendly.
No matter where this mission will lead him, the 29-year-old cager just wants to prove that it's all right to dream - and that no one should stop you from pursuing your dream.
"Gusto kong i-prove talaga na kaya kong maglaro sa PBA. Hinahabol ko lang ang pangarap ko at makapagbigay ng inspirasyon sa mga nangangarap maglaro sa PBA," he said.
