CHRIS Tiu believes he can still play basketball at the highest level following his 30-point explosion on Saturday in Rain or Shine’s final game of the season - and likely the last of his PBA career.
“Tingin ko kaya pa,” said Tiu, when asked if he can still play the game at a competitive level. “I don’t know how many minutes I played but I played pretty good.”
Tiu, however, has hinted at retirement at the end of this season, mentioning his desire to spend more time with his family and finally attend to his commitments off the court.
On Saturday, Rain or Shine gave Tiu every opportunity to shatter his previous career-high of 24 points he set just a few weeks ago. Tiu ended up taking 22 shots and converting nine of them.
“Eto pala pakiramdam na lagi kang pinapasahan ng mga teammates mo at pinapatira ka,” Tiu said laughing.
“Kahit college, hindi ganun na walang konsensiya na tira ng tira. Hinahanap talaga nila ako, screens sa akin, kapag nag-mintis, sige tira mo pa. Eto pala pakiramdam. Sarap pala. I think this is the most attempts that I ever took except sa larong labas noong bata ako.”
Tiu was happy to be able to get through the season despite a grueling schedule as he also has commitments outside basketball.
“I feel okay and I think I have developed a good, effective routine in terms of physical conditioning and my rest management also. Important din kasi ‘yun as a pro," said the former Ateneo star.
"Hindi puwedeng training ng training, hindi ka nagre-recover lalo na tumatanda na ako. Thanks to our trainer and physical therapists who have done a great job of taking care of my body.
“This season, I only missed a few games. I’m thankful that God has taken care of me. I think two years na wala akong major injury I was relatively healthy this season,” added the 33-year-old.
