CHRIS Tiu emerged from the Rain or Shine locker room smiling and greeting everyone at the hallway despite a 99-111 loss to Alaska in the PBA Commissioner's Cup Finals on Friday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Tiu, 30, simply could not let the loss dampen his spirit - or his hope for a double celebration.

    Real soon, hopefully.

“Yeah, I’m excited to be a dad,” the Gilas Pilipinas pioneer told SPIN.ph as he stood next to his pregnant wife.

“But right now we have to take care of business first, and hopefully it’ll be sweeter if we win this championship and then, you know, I’ll be a father to a baby girl.”

“It’ll be a double blessing, double victory for us, hopefully, you know. But God willing, we’ll see what happens,” he added.

“Malapit na (ako maging daddy), anytime na,” he continued.

Leading 3-0, Rain or Shine had hoped to finish the best-of-seven finals, but a more aggressive and energized Alaska squad spoiled any plans of a championship celebration.

Tiu was quick to gave credit to the Aces, particularly to the Aces coaching staff.

“Of course we wanted to close it out today, we tried, but we have to give it to Alaska, the coaching staff they did their homework,” he said. “They made the right adjustments, they played with a lot of energy, they made a lot of open shots, they deserve to win this one.”

“So next game we have to just do the same, make our adjustments, play harder, play smarter and hopefully we can close it out,” he added.

“We have to treat every game like it’s our last. Like last conference we know a 3-0 (lead) doesn’t really mean much.”
