CHRIS Tiu rewrote his PBA career-high in a one-week span, albeit with contrasting result.
The veteran guard poured 24 points but not enough to salvage Rain or Shine playoffs hopes in the season-ending Governors Cup after suffering a 103-97 loss against Phoenix Wednesday night at the Astrodome.
Only last week Tiu scored a league personal best of 23 points in the team's win over NorthPort, 120-98, in the same Pasay venue.
But against the Fuel Masters, the former Ateneo star just fell short of pulling it off despite shooting 4-of-8 from three-point range and Rain or Shine leading by 16 at one point of the ballgame.
Well, you winsome, you losesome, according to Tiu.
"Siyempre gusto nating manalo. Yun naman ang objective natin parati and maka-qualify sa playoffs," he said.
"But at least I know I put out the effort and I did what I could to help my team," he added. "Wala kinapos lang talaga. Ganun talaga ang basketball e."
Rain or Shine's third straight loss dropped the team at 2-7 and formally eliminated the team for a quarterfinals berth.
Tiu said the Elasto Painters suddenly can't hit their shots in the final quarter, while being outrebounded by the Fuel Masters off the boards, 67-47.
"It's the same story as before. Yung lahat ng talo namin ng nakaraan, ganun din," he said.
Tiu however hopes, the effort he had been showing in all of the Elasto Painters' games this conference would rubbed off on his teammates, especially the younger ones.
"As one of the veterans of the team, I hope I can impart something to them," he said. "Para sa susunod sila naman."
