BIÑAN – Beau Belga will no longer play for this season for Rain or Shine, but Chris Tiu will still see action for the Elastopainters in their final match of the PBA Governors’ Cup on Saturday.
Belga and Tiu sat out Saturday’s game as the depleted Elastopainters bowed to San Miguel, 109-97, to slide to their fourth straight loss.
Rain or Shine coach Caloy Garcia confirmed Belga will not be playing again in their last match of the season against NLEX next Saturday, but Tiu will be present as he was out on Saturday due to sickness.
Tiu didn’t play on Saturday after scoring a career-high 24 points in Rain or Shine’s loss to Phoenix last Wednesday, while Belga has not played for two straight games since suffering a heel injury last October 19.
“Si Belga, out na. Si Chris, he will play next game. Masama lang pakiramdam niya kasi kahapon, may back spasm siya pero um-okay naman. Pagdating naman niya, he is a little bit sick. The nice thing is we were able to give other players a chance to play,” said Garcia.
With the two out, the Elastopainters were unable to sustain the close game as the Beermen pulled away in the third following a 30-20 explosion by their opponent to suffer another loss.
Garcia refused to blame Belga and Tiu’s absence for the loss.
“I’m satisfied with the players tonight. We are playing a powerhouse team like San Miguel. It’s nice to see June Mar back. We were already expecting that. The players gave their hearts out. I have no regrets on what we did today."
"It’s really hard to beat a team like San Miguel. We were in the game but it’s only a stretch that I think four, five continuous plays that we didn’t get points. Part ng game talaga ‘yun. I told my players to grind it out next time,” added Garcia.
