AN altercation with Ryan Reyes and jawing with TNT KaTropa's standby importsmay have only served to bring out the fire in Chris Ross.
The San Miguel team captain ran roughshod on the KaTropa in the second half to lead the Beermen to a 109-97 victory and a 2-1 lead in the PBA Commissioner's Cup Finals on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Ross finished with 17 points on 4-of-8 shooting from three-point distance and added five assists and four steals in an intense game marred by a halftime commotion involving TNT imports Mike Myers and Michael Craig and San Miguel officials.
The spats and trash talk only served to get Ross going.
"It just kind of gets our juices going, man. It's kinda like waking up a sleeping dog or something," said Ross.
"We're just trying to play basketball and when they start to do things that we feel that aren't basketball, we kind of turn it up a notch," he added.
Ross also played down his jawing with the Ka-Tropa imports, saying that he didn't really mind the trash talk that he was receiving from the pair.
"I guess those guys, they keep talking to me, I don't know why. The guy (Craig) told me he's playing next conference, I said I'm not worried about the next conference. I'm worried abut the game right now," Ross continued.
"If that's what he wants to do, to talk then he'll have his time to back it up next conference."
Now the main focus for Ross and the Beermen is to try and create separation from the Ka-Tropa as they look to a take a 3-1 lead on Wednesday.
"They don't want to go down 3-1, our goal is to go up 3-1. So well try to correct some things, that and some of the things they've adjusted on, we'll adjust to that and we'll be ready to play on Wednesday."
