CHRIS Ross acknowledged rookie Roger Pogoy as a 'very talented player,' saying there’s no need for him to go overboard on playing physical.

Just like the way he did Wednesday in the rematch between San Miguel and TnT Katropa in the PBA Governors Cup.

Ross got entangled with Pogoy in a second-quarter tussle at the Smart Araneta Coliseum that led to a lot of shouting and shoving between the two rival teams, resulting in technical foul each on both players and veteran guard Jayson Castro.

The Fil-Am guard later advised the TnT freshman to just stick to playing the game especially since he has the talent to go far in the league.

At the same time, he’s a key player of Gilas Pilipinas, Ross added.

“Just play the game, play the game right,” said Ross after the game won by the Beermen, 97-91. “You’re representing our country and you’re there for a reason. Your talent is there.”

Ross also got involved in another physical play with import Michael Craig late in the final quarter, but dismissed it as part of the game.

“He’s a competitor, and I’m a competitor, too,” said the two-time PBA Philippine Cup Finals MVP, who was 0 for 8 from the field and finished with five points, but had eight rebounds and 10 assists.

The physical plays obviously were carried over from the Commissioner’s Cup Finals match-up between the two champion franchises. San Miguel beat TnT in six games to win its second straight title this season.

“There’s a lot at stake last month (Finals), but there’s a lot of emotions here tonight,” he said.

But he’s really more concerned with Pogoy, 24, since he sees a very bright future for the kid.

“The kid will get better,” said Ross. “He’s a good player that’s what I told him. So don’t get involved with anything else.”
