THE injury bug struck the San Miguel Beer camp once more.
Already without gunner Marcio Lassiter, the Beermen lost another key player after starting point guard Chris Ross suffered what team doctors fear was a tear on his right calf during the team’s heart-stopping 115-112 overtime victory over Barako Bull on Wednesday night in Binan, Laguna.
San Miguel physical therapist Gerald Tenorio said an initial check on Ross revealed the cat-quick Fil-Am playmaker may have suffered a tear on his right calf after going for a layup midway through the fourth quarter.
“Ipapa-check up pa namin uli `yung kay Chris Ross pero posibleng tear ng right calf `yung injury niya,” Tenorio told Spin.ph after the game.
Just last Sunday, Lassiter suffered a cut on his right shin and failed to finish the Beermen’s game against San Mig.
Aside from Ross, San Miguel top center June Mar Fajardo also twisted his ankle during the third period against the Energy.
The 6-foot-10 big man managed to return in the final period and even scored on a crucial three-point play late in the extra period to contribute to the Beermen’s third straight win in four starts.
“Si June Mar naman mas manageable. Okay na naman siya,” added the Beermen’s physical therapist.
Tenorio said the 6-foot Ross is a doubtful starter for San Miguel's match against Talk ‘N Text on Saturday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Meantime, Lassiter is expected to miss this Saturday’s game, though the San Miguel gunner might be able to suit up by next week.
