MERALCO is not letting its acknowledged franchise player go elsewhere.
Chris Newsome has been signed to a new three-year deal by the Bolts, ensuring his stay with the organization that selected him No. 4 overall during the 2014 draft.
The 35-year-old guard out of Ateneo is already an unrestricted free agent as a member of the 2015 draft class, but opted to remain as a Bolt.

Newsome said he’s grateful for the franchise that has nurtured his PBA career and eventually led to a first-ever championship during the 2024 Philippine Cup.
‘The future looks bright for me at least for another next few years,” the newly-wed shared to SPIN.ph
The former Ateneo guard said it wasn’t difficult for him to decide on extending his stay with Meralco.

“Meralco has given me everything that I needed throughout my career. They gave me my start, they allowed me to develop, they allowed me to make mistakes,” said Newsome.
“I’m definitely grateful to Meralco and management of Meralco for everything they have given me.
“I definitely wouldn’t be here, I wouldn’t be representing the country if I didn’t have the success that I had with Meralco. So I definitely feel it’s the right thing to do on both ends to continue to improve my legacy with Meralco and try to get them another championship.”
