CHRIS Ellis blamed the slippery ball for missing a breakaway slam in Ginebra’s 107-92 loss to Tropang TNT in a PBA Commissioner’s Cup game on Wednesday night.
The high-flying Gin Kings wingman had an opportunity for a highlight-reel play when he found himself alone in transition early in the fourth quarter, only to waste it with a botched dunk attempt.
“The ball just slipped out of my hands,” Ellis said. “Those brand-new balls were just slippery.”
“That’s the first time that’s ever happened to me since high school,” added the former PBA Slam Dunk champion. “I don’t even remember anymore.”

The third time’s the charm for Ellis as he finally completed a fastbreak play on his third attempt, although he just settled for a layup over Matt Rosser.
“I’m really glad to be able to get those fastbreak opportunities,” the 6-foot-4 cager said. “I really haven’t been able to get those throughout the season, but it’s good to make that adjustment.”
Overall, Ellis still played one of his better games under coach Tim Cone, scoring 10 points in 11 minutes. He also vowed to make up for his missed dunk next time.
“Just chalk it up to the game and just try to get better and higher next time,” the Filipino-American cager said with a smile.
