ALASKA coach Alex Compton is not worried that the Aces once again have the oldest import in the Commissioner’s Cup in Chris Daniels.

Compton said the Aces are no stranger to having the oldest import in a reinforced conference after 35-year-old Mike Harris played in the Governors’ Cup.

With Harris, the Aces finished second place behind Magnolia.

“I’m not worried,” said Compton. “I think Mike Harris was the oldest last conference and we did pretty well did we?”

Compton said the 35-year-old Daniels is just what the Aces needed because of his high basketball IQ.

“He is like a coach. He is one of the smartest guys that I’ve been around. I want to tell something or what I believe. He will say that he feels the same way. The point is he thinks like a coach as a player,” said Compton.

Daniels, who has been playing professional basketball for 11 years around the world, said he still has a lot to learn despite his experience.

“That’s a great complement from coach but I still have a lot to learn. I’m relatively new to this. I have a ton of stuff to learn about the PBA,” said Daniels.

Compton said he likes Daniels’ attitude.

“When you have a guy like that that knows to win, he doesn’t care about, you know when he got 21 points in the first half but he doesn’t care about scoring. If it’s his turn, it’s his turn. If it’s not his turn, it’s not his turn. He will try to read the defense and get the team the best shot.”

“So having a brain and a skill set like he has is great. I don’t think he is going to win the dunk contest anytime soon but he is a great guy. The thing I really love about him, I’ve made him run in practice and I never heard him complain,” Compton said.

In his first PBA game, Daniels finished with 25 points and 16 rebounds for the Aces, who beat Columbian, 111-98, on Sunday. Daniels said he is just playing his role with the team.

“While I’m on floor, I’m going to help my guys in any way I can possibly can. If I see something that’s going to help them and help our team, I’m going to say something about it,” Daniels said.
