CHRIS Banchero of Alaska hurt his hand during a sequence that saw him accidentally hit Jayson Castro near the eye on Friday night in the PBA Philippine Cup.

The third-year Alaska guard accidentally poked Castro hard near the right eye as he was trying to steal the ball away from the veteran TnT playmaker.

Castro was later treated for the injury and failed to finish the game, which the Texters won, 109-100.

But Banchero also hurt his finger in the process, resulting in a sprain. His left hand was later packed in ice to have the swelling subside.

“I don’t know what it is, but it’s hurting, man,” said the Fil-Italian player as he hurriedly left the Philsports Arena after the match. He was not brought to the hospital, however.

Coach Alex Compton later confirmed Banchero sprained the finger.

“Our medical staff looked at it and treated. It’s just a sprain,” said the Alaska mentor. “He’s hurt, but not injured."

Banchero finished with 12 points, three rebounds, and three assists, but committed four turnovers.
