HAVING Mike Harris around is making life easy for Alaska point guards including Chris Banchero.

Banchero chalked up a double-double for Alaska in its 106-89 win over Rain or Shine on Thursday, chalking up 16 points and 13 assists in the win.

So far, Banchero is averaging double-double for Alaska this conference, tallying 16.8 points and 10.2 assists through five games with the Aces. He is also the second-leading scorer behind Harris.

One of the reasons his double-double effort was due to Harris, who brings a lot to the table for his teammates.

“He gets a lot of guys open shots because they have to double team,” said Banchero. “If they don’t double him, he is a bucket. Him just being that good, we will get a lot of open shots on the back side.”

The win by Alaska was following a one-month break as the Aces atoned for their loss to Ginebra last September 3. After a few rusty moments in the first half, the Aces regrouped and went on a 16-0 run in the fourth en route to the win.

“We played a much-better second half. That first half just didn’t feel like us. Coming off a one-month break, we knew that’s going to happen. We just need to continue to grow,” said Banchero.

“The mindset was just to keep going. He (Alaska coach Alex Compton) told us before the game, we might start slow having a one-month break but we just have to continue to play. When Mike is playing like that, we are a tough team to beat. He came in and gave us great energy for us and really started that run for us,” said Banchero.

Alaska now looks forward to Saturday’s match against San Miguel at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City. Even though San Miguel is struggling with a 2-3 mark, Banchero said the Beermen will remain a championship contender.

“We have a big game on Saturday. San Miguel is a championship team. That will show what team we are. It’s a big one. San Miguel is San Miguel. Standhardinger is really playing good. It will be tough for us,” said Banchero.
