    Rookie Chris Banchero not cutting hair, so long as Alaska keeps playing well

    ALASKA has been playing so well the entire PBA Governors Cup, rookie guard Chris Banchero has taken it upon himself not to cut his hair.

    Shades of Samson, the Biblical character?

    “No, nothing serious about it,” he said with a laugh. “I’m just growing my hair a little bit. We’re just having a good conference, so I’m not cutting it yet.”

    “I don’t know if it’s a lucky charm, but we’re playing well.”

    The Aces indeed, are playing so well that they’re back in the finals for the second time in three conferences this season, making the championship series of the Governors Cup on Sunday after dethroning Star Hotshots, 82-77, for a sweep of their best-of-five semifinals series.

    As per Banchero’s calculation, he has not had a hair cut for half a year now. In the same breath, it’s the first time the Fil-Italian player is growing his hair this long.

    “For a while maybe six or seven months,” he said.

    Banchero still had a short hair during the Philippine Cup Finals, when the Aces lost to the San Miguel Beermen in seven grueling games.

    Banchero described the experience as a ‘heartbreaker.’

    “Losing in Game Seven in the first conference was a heartbreaker,” he admitted.

    But with the Aces playing well, Banchero is hopeful the disappointment will be over by the time the season ends.

    “We’ve been working extremely hard all conference, so hopefully we’ll win it this time,” he said.
