ANTIPOLO CITY – Despite a heartbreaking loss to San Miguel, TNT coach Chot Reyes was pleased with the way the team gave the defending PBA Philippine Cup champions a big scare until the endgame.
The Beermen clinched a second straight win after escaping past the Tropang Giga, 91-89, in a game at the Ynares Arena that wasn’t decided until big man Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser missed a potential game-winning three at the buzzer.
Reyes pleased with the team effort
TNT suffered a second loss in four outings, but Reyes came out of the team dugout pretty content at the way the Tropang Giga competed with ‘the big boys.’
“Pretty satisfied,” were the first two words he uttered. “We caught San Miguel in a very hot shooting night. They shot over 50 percent from three points and we still came within a possession from beating them.”
Reyes noted TNT only shot 55 percent from the foul line (10-of-18) during the closely-fought game.
“We missed a ton of free throws. We’ve made only 50 percent of our free throws. If we had made half of those, maybe the story would’ve been different,” he said.
The biggest consolation TNT got from the loss was having the Beermen on the tightrope until the end.
Chot cites little mistakes
“There were a lot of things to take away. We could compete with the big boys, that’s number one. Number two, to be able to reflect on the little things. Marami kaming little mistakes (throughout) the game that in the end, you lose by two points,” said Reyes.
“Can you imagine if we just made one less mistake? Not a big mistake, but one less little mistake (from) each player.’
Like the rest of the field, TNT will also have a long break during the All-Star festivities and the Holy Week, a stretch which Reyes said the team will try to take advantage to correct those ‘little mistakes.’
“We got to stay sharp. Dami pa naming bagong ginagawa,” said the TNT coach.
