AFTER the PBA Season 50 Philippine Cup finals, TNT coach Chot Reyes will get to have June Mar Fajardo at his disposal.
Reyes was named head coach of the South team for the coming All-Star Game, where he’ll have the 6-foot-10, nine-time MVP as his main man.
The only seven-time recipient of the Coach of the Year award was delegated to call the shots for the South team during the official draw lots held at halftime of Game 4 of the All-Filipino title series.
The proceedings were presided over by Commissioner Willie Marcial and Candon City Mayor Eric Singson, whose province will be hosting All-Star festivities from March 6 to 8.
Shortly after Reyes was drawn, the task to handle the North squad went to San Miguel counterpart Leo Austria.

Fajardo received the most number of votes from fans to lead the South All-Stars, where he is joined in the starting unit by RJ Abarrientos, Scottie Thompson, Calvin Oftana, and Robert Bolick.

At the moment, both Reyes and Fajardo are on the opposite sides of the fence, as the Beermen and Tropang 5G are all even at 2-2 in the best-of-seven finals.
Austria meanwhile, will have the starting five of Japeth Aguilar, Calvin Abueva, Juan Gomez De Liano, CJ Perez, and Stephen Holt for the North All-Stars.
PBA goes way up north
During the draw lots, Marcial and Singson also officially signed the Memorandum of Agreement for Candon City, Ilocos Sur to be the official host of the All-Star Weekend.
“It will be the biggest sports event not only in Candon, but the whole province, (and) I think, the whole Region 1, since this is the 50th anniversary of the PBA and at the same time, the All-Star Game,” said Singson.
Marcial said this year’s All-Star was almost three years in the making since Candon City has already been chosen as provincial host as early as 2024.
Last year’s All-Star weekend in Davao City was called off at the last minute for security reasons.
