Victolero on Brownlee: 'We know maliit siya, pero ang daming maliit na nakakabulag'

    Apr 9, 2017

STAR coach Chito Victolero is bracing for another all-around performance from Justin Brownlee as Star and Barangay Ginebra collide in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Sunday night at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The 6-foot-5 Brownlee may be the shortest among this batch of imports, but has punched above his weight for the Gin Kings since his debut in the Governors’ Cup where he led them to the title.

“Yun naman ang advantage ng Ginebra: kabisado nila si Brownlee,” Victolero said. “Alam nila kung ano ang ibibigay ni Brownlee sa kanila.

“We know maliit siya, pero ang daming maliit na nakakabulag eh,” he added.

After a sluggish start in their conference debut, Brownlee flashed his old form last Wednesday when he scattered 29 points, highlighted by four three-pointers, eight boards, seven assists, four steals, and two blocks in 38 minutes to lead the Gin Kings to a 113-96 win over GlobalPort.

Brownlee tries to lead the Gin Kings to their second straight win as they take on the pacesetting Hotshots at 6:45 p.m.

Brownlee, though, is still giving up three inches to Hotshots counterpart Tony Mitchell, who has meshed well with his teammates and is averaging 22 points, 15.5 boards, 1.8 assists, 3.3 blocks, and 1 steal in 36.3 minutes in four games.

“Tony Mitchell seems to fit them really well,” Gin Kings coach Tim Cone said. “I scouted him in the D-League, he's a very active guy, very athletic and very active, and he plays the game with a lot of emotion. He's been playing very well for them, and they've looked really sharp.”
