HELP is on the way for Magnolia while in the wake of a hellish five-game stretch as Ian Sangalang is set to return from his right wrist injury in their next match against NLEX in July 4.
The Hotshots absorbed their fourth defeat in five games after getting blown out by rival Barangay Ginebra, 104-84, on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The return of Sangalang, who was averaging 13 points and five rebounds this conference until he was sidelined by injury, is exactly what the doctor ordered for them.
“Yes. Ian will start practicing with us on Wednesday, so makakabalik na si Ian. Nakaka-four weeks na ata si Ian. Four to six weeks kasi 'yung sinasabi na healing. So he can start na siguro 'yung gradual practice,” said Magnolia coach Chito Victolero.
The defeat dropped the Hotshots to 4-5, tied with Columbian Dyip for the seventh and eighth place - just half-a-game ahead of the resurgent Gin Kings.
With two games left in the elimination round , the timing of Sangalang’s return is impeccable.
“Malaking bagay 'yun, kasi nakita niyo naman, we don't have any inside presence with the loss of Ian and Ping eh. So right now, we just try to give our small guys kung ano 'yung offense namin. But with Ian, at least we have a post presence,” said Victolero.
“Lalaki din kami. Talagang mahirap palitan 'yun. But I think maganda lang d'yan, may chance pa, at makakabalik na si Ian.”
