THE mighty is set to become even mightier.
Still in the midst of its PBA Philippine Cup campaign, San Miguel has made moves to bring back Charles Rhodes as import in next month’s Commissioner’s Cup.
The team just waited for Rhodes to finish his contract in the Korean Basketball League (KBL) where he steered the Incheon Electroland Elephants to a runner-up finish behind champion Ulsan Hyundai Mobis Phoebus, according to a San Miguel insider.
Rhodes was the energetic, force in the middle guy who helped the Beermen win the Commissioner’s Cup crown two years ago, while also winning the Best Import of the conference award.
He forms a formidable frontcourt trio at San Miguel along with five-time MVP June Mar Fajardo and Christian Standhardinger.
SPIN.ph learned that before negotiating with Rhodes, management consulted and get the consensus of the players, who gave the thumbs up to have the 33-year-old Galveston, Texas native back for another tour of duty with the team.
Last year San Miguel reached the finals of the mid-season tournament with Renaldo Balkman as import, but the team was ambushed in six games by Justine Brownlee and the Barangay Ginebra Kings.
