CARL Montgomery proved that he is a good fit for Rain or Shine after a stellar first game with the Elastopainters in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

Montgomery had 20 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, two steals, and two blocks for the Elastopainters in Wednesday’s 86-82 win over the Hotshots to claim their second straight victory.

“He did well especially in the second half,” said Rain or Shine coach Caloy Garcia. “In the first half, I think nangigigil siya eh. When he caught the ball inside, I explained to him that it is different here kasi medyo physical and everbody in the Magnolia side was collapsing on him.”

“Luckily for us, in the second half, he started hitting his three-point shots. Hindi nila nakita nung first half. It gave us momentum,” said Garcia.

“It was a very physical game,” said the 30-year-old Chicago State product. “I felt like I played to the best of my abilities. My team picked me up when I wasn’t doing so well in the fourth quarter. We were able to get the win. The much-needed win.”

Montgomery is confident he will be able to adjust to the PBA game in no time, as he is also getting pointers from Bowles prior to the match.

“I’m adjusting to the physicality. I have to get used to the humidity also. I’ve only been here for, what, three days. I will keep getting better and I will be okay,” said Montgomery.

“Denzel told me to play my game and play through, don’t think too much, give as much effort as you can on both ends of the court,” he added.

Moving forward, Garcia hopes to get more production from the rebounding department from Montgomery as the Elastopainters get ready to face San Miguel on Saturday.

“Overall, it’s going to be hard. I think he has to give us more numbers especially on the boards,” said Garcia.
