BLACKWATER coach Jeff Cariaso made it known the significant role big man Christian David will play for the team moving forward.

“Honestly, he’s the priority. We have a few guys expiring at the end of the conference and Christian David is the priority,” said Cariaso when asked about the Bossing’s future plan for the 6-foot-6 forward, whose two-year deal is set to expire this September.

“We will make sure that we sit him down, and yeah, the idea is to continue going. He deserves it.”

The Bossing may have missed the playoffs the entire Season 49 on David’s second year with the franchise, but he’s certainly among the bright spots for the team, so much so Cariaso considers him and rookie Sedrick Barefield as cornerstones of Blackwater.

“I’m proud with how he’s really come on his own in regards to wanting to improve and being one of our cornerstones for the team. That’s a big responsibility for a young guy. So I put Sed there also,” he said.

“You’re going to have to be with them and support and guide them and coach them through the ups and the downs. There is still a big learning curve and they’re slowly getting out of that and understanding again what it takes to be successful in the PBA.”

As far as his contract renewal is concerned, David said he’s leaving the sensitive matter to Bossing management and his representative.

“That’s something to think about after the conference,” he admitted. “(But) I feel like my main focus is to help the team win and finish out this conference strong.”
