JEFF Cariaso will finally call the shots for Blackwater in its last three outings in the PBA On Tour.
The veteran coach showed up at the FilOil EcoOil Center in San Juan on Sunday, but still deferred to deputy Joe Silva who coach the Bossing in their 103-101 win over the San Miguel Beermen
But with a 12-day rest between now and their next game, Cariaso said it will give him enough time to know the team better.
Cariaso came on board last April to take over the coaching reins from Ariel Vanguardia. He briefly ran the Bossing’s practices before he left for the US before the start of the preseason.
“Starting tomorrow (Monday), I have 10 days to be with them, so I think that’s a better feel for our next game. So I should be ready for them na,” said Cariaso.
“I plan to coach the last three games.”
Blackwater will return to the court on July 14 against Meralco, and then winds up its campaign against Rain or Shine (July 23) and TNT Tropang Giga (July 30).
Cariaso started showing up for the team's practices the past two days, but let Silva and the rest of the coaching staff handle the team against San Miguel.
“I didn’t want to change things so much. I know there’s a game (today), so I told the coaching staff that it would be better if they just continue for today,” he said.
But he did try to motivate the team against San Miguel in order to win back-to-back games for the first time in the preseason.
"When we won the last game my challenge to them was, ‘Let’s try to win two in a row,'" he said. "Because in a real conference – and for us this a real conference – you have to string wins together for us to have a chance.”
