CLARK FREEPORT – Alaska couldn’t be any more grateful seeing veteran big man Sonny Thoss join the team inside the PBA bubble during its first game in the Philippine Cup Sunday.
Virtually, that is.
The 38-year-old Thoss was among the virtual fans shown on the three video boards at the Angeles University Foundation gym watching the encounter between the Aces and TnT Tropang Giga.
Coach Jeff Cariaso said he was aware the Alaska center was among those in the virtual audience during the first game of the opening-day doubleheader.
And he appreciates the support the James Cook University product has shown for the only team he has ever played for in his entire 15-year pro career.
“He was there. And it’s good to see him,” said Cariaso of his one-time teammate. “I think he kind of inspired the guys a little bit also.”

Too bad, the Aces lost the game against the Tropang Giga, 100-95.
Typical of Thoss, Cariaso noted how the big man was among the early birds in the virtual audience.
“Like always, siya yung pinaka-maagang nanonood,” said Cariaso. “Sonny is always early. If call time is 11 a.m., he’ll be there by 9:30 a.m. Ganun siya, e.”
The Alaska coach said the Aces definitely missed the presence of their resident big man who opted not to join the team inside the bubble after not renewing his contract with the franchise.
“More than anything, you just missed his presence,” Cariaso stressed. “There’s never been practice or game na wala si Sonny the last 15 years, so doon pa lang, iba na.”
