BEAU Belga is not a fool to grant the request of a taunting MacMac Cardona.
The Rain or Shine big man revealed how the Meralco guard tried to provoke him into throwing a punch in the endgame of their hotly-contested PBA Commissioner’s Cup game Wednesday night which the Bolts won in overtime, 118-116, at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
Belga just missed a potential game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer in a play where Cardona appeared to have hacked him in the arm while making the shot.
No foul was called as Cardona put his arms around Belga and hugged the Elasto Painters center in the midst of the pandemonium.
The burly 6-foot-5 center immediately shoved away Cardona’s arms and muttered obvious expletives that nearly sparked an endgame brawl.
Belga later disclosed to Spin.ph how Cardona tried to provoke him.
“Niyakap niya ako after ng last shot ko.
Cardona later denied to Spin.ph that he said such things to Belga, whom he said is a friend, both of them having come from Mandaluyong.
“Wala akong sinabi sa kanya,” said Cardona in defending himself.
Still, the Meralco star understands where Belga is coming from.
Cardona, who had just recovered from a scoring drought in the Bolts’ last three games, said he would also feel the same way if he’s in the shoes of Belga.
The Rain or Shine big man is quick to shrug off the incident and said he’d rather move on.
