WHILE he promises to play with the same energy and intensity once his suspension is lifted, Calvin Abueva vowed to keep a cool head during games.
The controversial Phoenix forward said nothing will change as far as his approach to the game is concerned, promising to play with the same hard-nosed style that endeared 'The Beast' to basketball fans.
What he vowed to change is his attitude and antics that got him in trouble in the past, including he clothesline on TNT import Terrence Jones last June 2, 2019 that prompted the league to suspend him indefinitely.
“Hindi the same. Doble pa,” said Abueva when asked during the 2OT podcast if fans can expect the same level of energy and intensity from him once he comes back.
When asked about his antics, Abueva said: “Sinasabi ko nga, kailangan ko mag-isip ng doble pa sa mga dapat ko ring gawin.”
The former NCAA MVP out of San Sebastian is still awaiting the lifting of his ban. He bared that he has already passed a drug test and done two psychological tests, needing four more nefore the league can reevaluate his ban.
Calling his ban a learning experience, the 32-year-old Abueva said he realized that players who play well are those that can keep their focus.
“Ang dami na rin sa PBA na older sa akin na nakukuha nila sa tiyaga," the Phoenix star said. "Ang focus kasi nila about sa game. Hindi sila nagfo-focus sa ibang bagay na nakakasira sa kanila."
Abueva said he is determined to win another championship after winning his only one with Alaska in the 2013 Commissioner’s Cup.
