ALASKA star Calvin Abueva has been summoned to appear before PBA commissioner Chito Salud for the punch on Rain or Shine guard Jonathan Uyloan that led to his ejection from Game Four of their Philippine Cup semifinal series on Thursday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The third-year Aces forward will appear before Salud at 4 p.m. on Friday to air his side on the incident where he appeared to punch Uyloan in the gut from behind with less than two minutes left and Game Four hanging in the balance.
His ejection led to an Alaska collapse that enabled Rain or Shine to pull off a 98-91 win and level the best-of-seven series at 2-all.
The flagrant foul 2 was the first for the season for Abueva, who faces a fine for the incident but is unlikely to be suspended ahead of Game Five on Saturday.
Until the Uyloan incident, the player fans call 'The Beast' has been mostly behaved this season, having picked up just a single technical foul for thrash-talking the whole Philippine Cup - for which he was fined P1,000.
His relatively clean record this season should be a mitigating factor when Salud decides on the sanction, unless the league can clearly establish that a punch was thrown in the play.
Television replays were inconclusive but PBA media bureau chief Willie Marcial said they are trying to determine if the league's video team has caught the incident from a reverse angle.
