CALVIN Abueva finally captured what had been an elusive Best Player of the Conference award in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup - the first of his career.
The Alaska star received the top individual plum in the conference on Friday after winning in runaway fashion, compiling 1150 points by finishing third in the statistical points standings (413), and being the unanimous choice among media (493), players (94), and league officials (150).
Abueva finished way ahead of closest pursuer Greg Slaughter who had 752 points, and Terrence Romeo (488), while Jayson Castro (482) and Carlo Lastimosa (378) rounded out the Top Five.
Meralco's Arinze Onuaku was named Best Import, beating out latecomers Pierre Henderson-Niles of Rain or Shine and Rob Dozier of Alaska.
Bolts coach Norman Black accepted the award on Onuaku's behalf.
