CALVIN Abueva still has to get clearance from the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) in the event the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) lifts his long-overdue suspension and finally allow him to play.

Not for anything else, but GAB chairman Abraham ‘Baham’ Mitra said he would like to first have a sit-down meeting with the eccentric Phoenix forward before being granted back his playing license.

“Me together with the two members of the Board would also like to talk to him. Gusto lang namin na makausap,” said Mitra on Saturday.

“Kasi ang nangyari pag okay na siya sa PBA, parang okay na. Hindi naman.”

Mitra clarified though, the meeting would just be a friendly reminder to the 32-year-old Abueva, who has been suspended for 14 months now after being involved in separate incidents with the partner of TnT Katropa guard Ray Parks and the TnT import Terrence Jones last season.

Mitra admitted what Abueva did was unworthy of being a professional player.

“Kung may kaunting problema sa attitude then that’s not being a professional. Baka isipin ng mga bata kung nagagawa ng mga professional yan, bakit kami hindi puwedeng gawin yun,” said the GAB chief.

“A professional license is a privileged, it’s not a right and it can be taken away any time,” Mitra stressed. “You can be suspended and you’re license can be revoked.”

Abueva admitted two weeks ago he already complete the requirements asked of him by the PBA and is now waiting on when Commissioner Willie Marcial will give him the reprieve and the go-signal to finally be back on the court.

Marcial said he already sat down with the former NCAA MVP from San Sebastian recently, but made clear to him that he still needs to complete a ‘process’ before being allowed to return.

The league commissioner however, wouldn’t expound on what the ‘process’ is all about.

Be that as it may, Abueva likewise needs to get a clearance too, from GAB.

“We also want to talk to him first kahit OK na siya sa PBA,” said Mitra. “I’m sure he will agree and he will come to terms.

“Probably sign an agreement for good behavior. Otherwise suspender or revoke (yung license), para huwag nang umulit.”
