CALVIN Abueva sat down with PBA commissioner Willie Marcial in what is viewed as the first step in a long process that the enigmatic forward hopes would lead to the lifting of his indefinite suspension from the pro league.
The Phoenix star met with Marcial at the league office and brought with him a letter of apology following his clothesline on TnT Katropa import Terrence Jones that left the former NBA player with a busted lip during the Commissioner’s Cup game between the two teams last June 2 at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
Marcial confirmed to SPIN.ph the meeting did transpire last week, but refused to elaborate what was discussed during Abueva’s visit.
A source privy to the talk however, said the 31-year-old Abueva was remorseful about his acts especially since he has also been told not to attend the practices of the Fuel Masters shortly after his suspension.
The flagrant foul penalty 2 infraction called on Abueva was an off-shoot of Jones hitting him in the groin, which the referees unfortunately failed to call.
Both were later hit with a P70,000 fine each.
Jones was penalized for his hit on Abueva (P50,000) and contacting a game official (P20,000). No suspension however, was meted on the TnT import.
Abuevas’ FPF2 infraction meanwhile cost him P50,000 and then another P20,000 for an altercation with Blackwater rookie Ray Parks' girlfriend.
