GREG Slaughter is seeing his rivals gaining on him in the Best Player of the Conference race in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
The Ginebra star kept his lead with 34.2 average statistical points (SPs), but Calvin Abueva is just 1.1 points behind in the tally of the standings through the quarterfinals.
Abueva’s Alaska team is the only team left in contention among his counterparts in the Top Five, with the squads of third-running Terrence Romeo (33), Jayson Castro (29.8), and Carlo Lastimosa (28.55) all eliminated, giving the Aces star the chance to take the top spot.
San Miguel Beer standouts June Mar Fajardo (28.55) and Marcio Lassiter (28.54) are also creeping up in the standings, running sixth and seventh, respectively.
A player must rank in the Top Five of the SPs standings to be eligible for the voting in the the BPC award race.
Statistics until the semifinal round are included in the SP standings, which are worth 40 percent, while the rest are determined through voting - 30% from the media, 25% from the players, and five percent from the Commissioner’s office.
