Abueva on decision to sign contract extension: 'Nandito na lahat sa Alaska'

    May 5, 2015

CALVIN Abueva is one happy man after signing a contract extension with Alaska, saying the Aces have everything he is looking for in a team that he found no reason to leave.

“Masaya at enjoy, dahil di na ako aalis (ng Alaska),” Abueva told, shortly after contributing nine points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals in a 106-80 whipping of Blackwater on Tuesday in the Aces PBA Governors Cup debut.

On Monday, the 'Beast' signed a three-year, P15.1 million contract that kicks in at the end of his old contract this season, guaranteeing him the league's maximum salary of P420,000 a month excluding bonuses.

But more than the financial aspect of the contract, Abueva said it was Alaska's championship tradition, top-notch coaches, the camaraderie among players and commitment to excellence that made him want to stay.

“Nandito na lahat sa Alaska. Maganda samahan ng mga teammates ko, magaling na coach saka ang kumpiyansa ko nandun. So ngayon, mas i-improve ko pa sarili ko para mas maging maganda pa ipapakita ko para sa team,” said the 27-year-old guard out of San Sebastian.

“Iyung (championship) tradition din na 'yun, siyempre inaasahan din nila (Aces and management) ako. Pero lahat kami sana gumagawa para maipagpatuloy itong tradisyon,” added the former PBA Rookie of the Year.

Alaska will be shooting for its second straight win in the season-ending conference when it faces a new-look Barangay Ginebra under coach Frankie Lim this Friday.
