CALVIN Abueva provided his usual energy as he made his conference debut for Alaska in the PBA Governors’ Cup on Sunday against Barangay Ginebra.
But the Aces star was extra motivated as it was against the league’s most popular team, which they beat, 109-100, in overtime.
“Syempre favorite talaga,” Abueva said. “Bigay todo talaga, pero syempre marami pang conference na makakaharap ko yun.”
The Aces workhorse, though had a commotion with Chris Ellis that saw him elbow the Ginebra wingman in the fourth quarter.
Still, it was mostly positive as Abueva, coming off a grueling offseason that saw him play for the national team, finished with 12 points, 10 boards, three assists, one block, and one steal against only one turnover in 27 minutes.
“Wala pa naman (pagod), may konting cramps pero hindi natin pinabayaan kasi lamang sila eh,” the Gilas standout said. “Kinagandahan, ‘di pa rin gumive up, talagang andun yung energy.”
And Aces coach Alex Compton was relieved to have his energizer bunny back in harness.
“It’s good to have him back,” the American coach said. “He brings a completely different dynamic to the whole game.”
