ALASKA could miss its heart and soul on Friday night when it seeks to get back on track in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup in its matchup against Phoenix.
Calvin Abueva is doubtful to play in their game against the Fuel Masters that tips off at 4:15 p.m. due to a busted lip he sustained after Almond Vosotros accidentally hit him with his elbow in Gilas Pilipinas practice last Monday.
“May pagkaalanganin,” the Aces superstar said before the start of the national team’s training session on Thursday night at the Meralco gym where he was relegated as a spectator again.
“Rest muna,” he added. “Eight stitches kaya alanganin ako makapag-ensayo. ‘Di rin kasi biro matamaan.”
Abueva is set to wear a protective mask once he returns.
“Makapag-ensayo naman ako, pero nagpagawa ako ng mask,” the 29-year-old cager said.
“Baka Monday o Tuesday, patingin ulit ako (sa doctor) kung ma-clear para maka-ensayo,” he added.
National coach Chot Reyes believes The Beast’s eagerness to train will hasten his return.
“I don’t think you can keep Calvin away from practice,” Reyes said. “Siya yung may gustung-gusto talaga palagi mag-practice. It’s just a question of if he’s going to be ready to practice.”
