RAIN or Shine coach Caloy Garcia says he was satisfied with the performance of the Elastopainters even with their exit in the semifinals of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup semifinals after bowing to Ginebra.
The Elastopainters lost Game Four to the Kings on Monday, ending the campaign of the team that topped the elimination round after losing just two games.
There were no disappointed faces inside the Rain or Shine dugout after the loss, according to Garcia, happy the Elastopainters were able to surprise a lot of people this conference.
“The nice thing in the dugout is we’re happy. We’re happy on how we performed. We just have to get better,” said Garcia.
He couldn’t ask for more from his players, Garcia said, after the Elastopainters’ gallant stand in the series.
“It speaks about our character,” said Garcia. “It’s hard to play Ginebra in a series. But it’s also a good learning point of our team. It is always good to play against them because you get to learn a lot of things.”
“Like I said, they got the best tactician right now in coach Tim. We gave them a battle and we were able to at least make our fans proud and management happy. We just have to learn how to get over that hump,” said Garcia.
Garcia said he is proud of the players as the Elastopainters were only big shots away from forcing a Game Five.
“It’s a good game for us. Ginebra deserves it. They were able to execute in the end, but we missed open three-point shots. LA hit a big three to get back the lead,” said Garcia.
“The nice thing about this was our players played their hearts out today. They don’t want to lose but it’s part of the game. Sometimes, losing can make you better,” he added.
Garcia now looks forward to the Governors’ Cup where he hopes the team can use the gains of their Commissioner’s Cup campaign in the next conference.
“Pahinga muna. Pahinga muna sila. Probably it’s going to be a short break because I think the next conference starts on August 17 so sabi ko naman sa mga players, we will still decide which import we will bring in,” said Garcia.
“Huwag lang sila mawala sa kundisyon. We performed well. Nobody felt that our team was capable of ending the eliminations as number one. There’s nothing to be ashamed of. It’s more of a lesson to be learned,” said Garcia.
