GINEBRA may have taken a step back in its PBA Commissioner’s Cup title bid, but at least Mark Caguioa took a step closer to a special personal milestone.

The longtime Gin Kings franchise player fired a season-high 12 points, including 10 in the second quarter, to finish as the lone double-digit local scorer in the team’s 132-94 loss at the hands of San Miguel Beer in Game Three.

By flashing his vintage offensive form, Caguioa moved just 34 points away from becoming the 15th member of the league's elite 10,000-point club - and only the second among active players after James Yap, according to chief statistician Fidel Mangonon III.

The 38-year-old Caguioa will also become the fifth player to play for Ginebra and go on to achieve the milestone.

    Who are the first four?

Philip Cezar is on top of that list and sixth overall with 12,077 points, although the Crispa great played for Ginebra only in the last two seasons of his career (1989-91).

Ginebra legend Robert Jaworski is next at 11,760 points, good for ninth overall, while Allan Caidic, who played one season with Ginebra at the tailend of a Hall of Fame career spently mostly at Great Taste and San Miguel, is next with 11,719 points, good for 10th overall.

Francis Arnaiz, Jaworski's longtime backcourt partner at Toyota who played for Ginebra from 1984 to ‘86, rounds out the list with 10,292 points, good for 13th overall.

So Caguioa, once done, will be in pretty great company.
