AS the 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals heats up, it’s quite interesting to see one of the main protagonists keeping himself busy with other endeavors.

That's exactly what San Miguel guard Alex Cabagnot is doing working as an television analyst in Game One of the Che’Lu Bar and Grill-CEU semifinal series in the 2018 PBA D-League Foundation Cup on Tuesday at Ynares Sports Arena.

Though people can argue that this isn’t the best time for Cabagnot to be taking on other stuff, the seven-time PBA champion thinks otherwise.

“This game and our game are totally different. The way I’m looking at things is totally different. This is just a passion project for me. I like doing it, just like coaching the UP (University of the Philippines) guys,” the SMB star guard said.

“I know some people may say that it’s not the most opportune time for me to do it, but it’s the semifinals here and it’s a good experience.”

An active player rarely takes his turn on the mike in the broadcast panel, but Cabagnot was quick to seize the opportunity 'to broaden my horizon.'

“For me, it’s an opportunity to broaden my horizon and it’s something I like to do,” he said. “Like coaching UP, I was proactive about it. I went to (ESPN5 production and talent coordinator) Ate Joanne (Natural-Clerigo), talked to boss Danny (Espiritu) and asked if I could do commentating.

"Sometimes in life, you just got to be proactive in the things that you’d like to do.”

It was Cabagnot’s fifth time on the broadcast booth, with his first engagements coming in the Filoil Preseason Cup and only the second in the D-League.

Asked how he would grade himself after a handful of stints, Cabagnot said, “I always have to go back and watch the game in itself to see how I did and make adjustments din.”

But the 35-year-old maintained that as much challenges as he’d like to take, his main priority will always be grand slam-seeking San Miguel, with Game Three of the championship series against Ginebra set on Wednesday.

“Syempre naman, San Miguel is my priority, but it doesn’t take away the fact that there are a lot of things I want to do business-wise, coaching, player development, education, and all that stuff," Cabagnot said.

“Hopefully, God-willing, I can do this again.”
