JUSTIN Brownlee scored at a rate never seen in a PBA Finals game in 32 years on Friday in Game 5 of the Commissioner’s Cup title series.
Brownlee scored 54 points in Barangay Ginebra’s 100-95 win over TNT to reach a new career-high, surpassing the 51 he set in a PBA Governors’ Cup elimination round affair against San Miguel on August 27, 2024.
The 54 also marks as the highest scoring output in a PBA Finals game since Swift import Tony Harris collected the same number of points in the Meaties’ 124-110 overtime defeat of San Miguel in Game 3 of the 1994 Governors’ Cup finale, according to PBA statistician Fidel Mangonon.
Brownlee also hit the third 50-point game of his career at the age of 38 as he continued to defy Father Time with a finals performance to remember.
Brownlee’s explosion allowed Ginebra to erase an 87-80 deficit entering the final three-minute mark of regulation, scoring the team’s next nine points only to be forced into overtime by an RR Pogoy jumper.
Brownlee, who just two days ago was awarded his fourth Best Import of the Conference plum, still had a lot of tank left in the extra period, scoring five including a three-point play that got the Gin Kings up, 94-92, deflating the Tropang 5G in overtime.
