NO way will the Bay Area Dragons win the PBA Commissioner’s Cup championship if they continue to allow Justin Brownlee and Barangay Ginebra to dominate on both ends of the floor like they did in Game One.

Head coach Brian Goorjian cited an unstoppable Brownlee and the Kings’ work off the boards as the two major factors that led to the Dragons' 96-81 loss on Christmas Day before a crowd of 18, 252 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

“We’ve got to do something with Brownlee, and we didn’t,” said the 69-year-old Goorjian.

Brownlee, the resident reinforcement of the Kings who is on track to winning a third Best Import award, got away with a game-high 28 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the floor, aside from 13 rebounds, and six assists.

His rebounding effort contributed to the Kings clobbering the guest team from Hong Kong off the glass, 58-35, numbers which alarmed Goorjian.

“If they rebound like that, we’re in trouble,” he said. “Over the course of the game, we started well, but we couldn’t keep them off the glass. They killed us off the glass and we’ve been winning that.”

Christian Standhardinger and Jamie Malonzo also finished in double figures in rebounding for Barangay Ginebra with 10 apiece, while guard Scottie Thompson was a rebound shy with nine.

In contrast, only import Andrew Nicholson crashed the board well for the Dragons with 12.

Goorjian also lamented the Dragons’ poor shooting from the field after just making 38 percent of their shots. Hayden Blankley was held to 2-of-13, Kobey Lam 4-of-12, Glen Yang 4-of-11, and Songwei Zhu 4-of-13.

Likewise, only the 6-foot-10 Nicholson finished in double figures for Bay Area with 27 points.

“So we got to play better than we did,” said the Bay Area mentor.
