BORACAY is the destination of winners.

For so long labeled as the destination of choice of losing PBA teams that battle for top honors in the fictitious 'Bora Cup,' the island paradise has turned into the destination of champions, thanks to Tim Cone.

The mult-titled Barangay Ginebra coach on Friday bared he is planning to go with his family to the white-sand beaches of the island in Aklan next week to unwind after the Gin Kings’ PBA Governors’ Cup conquest of Meralco.

“(This time,) we’re not going there because we lost,” Cone said with a smile.

For the entire team, the partying started as early as after the buzzer sounder following their 91-88 win in Game Six on Wednesday.

“We had the dinner after the game and I guess the players went clubbing after that,” Cone said. “They asked me to go and I said, ‘Yeah, right. That should’ve been three hours ago.’”

The Gin Kings will celebrate with their legion of supporters in a planned fans’ day on Sunday noon at The San Juan Arena, before holding a victory party for employees at the San Miguel Corp. compound on Monday.

“When you win, you have to celebrate because when you celebrate, it reminds you how much you enjoy winning,” Cone explained. “So when you get to that situation again, you remember how much fun it was to win.”

“But at some point, you got to put it away, put the trophy in the lobby, and go back to work,” he added as his team is expected to return to practice in the second week of November.
