BONNIE Tan offered no excuses after being dealt a severe beating by Converge in his first game as interim coach of NorthPort.

“Wala, talo, tambak,” was all Tan could offer following the 122-92 loss on Sunday night at the start of the PBA Governors’ Cup at the Philsports Arena.

The 30-point blowout was certainly not the kind of welcome Tan wanted after assuming the coaching job from predecessor Pido Jarencio, who in turn, took over Tan’s previous role as team manager.

But he was candid enough to admit there’s still a lot of room for the team’s improvement especially with him taking over the driver’s seat with the season-ending conference just around the corner.

“Marami pang adjustments. New system. Adjust ako sa kanila, adjust din ang players sa akin,” said Tan, who is actually coming off a third straight NCAA men’s basketball championship with Letran.

It didn’t help Tan that two of the Batang Pier’s top stars in Robert Bolick and Arwind Santos didn’t play in his first game as coach.

Bolick is nursing a hamstring, while Santos is still recovering from a recent knee procedure done to him.

Tan however, remains very positive with the Batang Pier’s campaign despite the loss, especially with the team getting a slew of talent like of former No. 1 pick Joshua Munzon, veteran Paul Zamar, and big man Christian Balagasay.

“The goal remains for the team to get better,” he said.
