TNT Katropa is not looking elsewhere in tapping the services of a new coach.
Management has elevated deputy Bong Ravena as full-time head coach and will start calling the shots for the Katropa in their PBA Governors Cup out-of-town game against debuting Rain or Shine Saturday in Iloilo.
A top official from the MVP Group confirmed the development to SPIN.ph on condition of anonymity on Friday.
Interim coach Eric Gonzales, who temporarily handled the team in its last game against Columbian Dyip after head coach Nash Racela took an indefinite leave, will slide back as assistant coach.
Coincidentally, Ravena will be making his coaching debut in his very own hometown having been a known native of Iloilo.
The decision came after the entire TnT coaching staff held a meeting with TnT board member and current PBA chairman Ricky Vargas last Tuesday.
Just a week ago, the team also hired New Zealander-Australian Mark Dickel as consultant following the slow start of a talent-laden ballclub expected to contend for a title in the season-ending meet.
Dickel will also start sitting on the TnT bench in the game against Rain or Shine.
Racela took an indefinite leave from the team after it stumbled to a 1-4 record, paving the way for Gonzales to take over on an interim basis.
Ravena has been a long-time personnel of the TnT franchise, starting out as player from 2000 to 2005 and was part of the team's first ever championship during the 2003 Philippine Cup.
He later became part of the team's coaching staff starting in 2008 until now.
