    Bobby Ray Parks rules self out of PBA Rookie Draft, awaits invitation for NBA training camps

    BOBBY Ray Parks will not join this year’s PBA Rookie Draft, opting instead to await opportunities to join the training camp of at least three NBA teams before the start of the season.

    Parks’ agent Charlie Dy confirmed the two-time UAAP MVP has ruled himself out of the August 23 draft, opting to stay on in the US awaiting an invitation from NBA teams to their training camp.

    “Hindi,” said Dy, when asked if Parks will apply for the draft.

    Dy hinted Parks hopes to get invites from three NBA teams, although the amiable player-agent said he is still verifying the identity of the teams.

    “I was told by our partners na parang three teams ‘yung mag-iinvite sa kanya eh. I just need to confirm kung ano ‘yung mga teams,” said Dy.

    To stay in shape for possible appearances in training camp, Parks, Dy said, plans to go full blast with his conditioning when he goes back to Indiana following visits to relatives in Los Angeles and Memphis.

    Parks has not totally taken a break since his stint in the NBA Summer League with the Dallas Mavericks as he trains thrice a week during his vacation, Dy said.

    “Okay naman siya. Tuluy-tuloy ang training niya and hopefully, by next week, may mga makuha kaming mga invitations,” said Dy.

    Parks played in six games for the Mavericks in the Summer League in las Vegas,where he averaged 3.0 points, 1.7 rebounds, 0.2 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.2 blocks.

    Parks played his best game last July 16 where he finished with 10 points, five rebounds, one assist, and four steals against an NBA D-League Select squad.

    Dy hopes Parks’ performance made an impression on NBA teams.

    “Maganda kasi work ethic niya eh,” said Dy.
