Blue Eagles' coach-in-waiting is left waiting

Waiting game as Perasol clueless on fate after Ateneo-MVP falling-out

    ATENEO'S coach-in-waiting is still, that's it, waiting.

The future remains uncertain for Bo Perasol, who was supposed to take over as Ateneo coach when Norman Black leaves for the PBA at the end of the season.

That was, until the team's top patron Manny Pangilinan, who had picked him for the job, had a falling-out with the school that saw him withdrawing support from the school's sports program.

Until the controversy erupted, Perasol, who had coached the defunct Powerade club in the PBA last season, had already signed a three-year contract and had been attending the practices of the Eagles' 'B' team.

Now he will have to wait until the end of the UAAP season before his situation is resolved.

“Both parties, I’m referring to Ateneo and MVP, are just going to wait for the resolution of the (UAAP) Finals. Of course, ang original na usapan naman was for me to coach Ateneo next season, so I’m just waiting for MVP’s decision on what’s next,” Perasol told Spin.ph during halftime of the game between Talk ‘N Text and Meralco at the Big Dome.

If the Ateneo option does not pan out, the former UP Fighting Maroon has the option of joining the coaching staff of either of the two MVP-owned teams in the pro league Talk ‘N Text or Meralco.

Perasol, though, made it clear he is not eyeing a head-coaching spot since the Tropang Texters have already appointed Black as Chot Reyes' replacement while the Bolts have Ryan Gregorio running the show.

Perasol had coached the Powerade/Coca-Cola since November 2009, leading the then eighth-seeded Tigers to the Finals of the Philippine Cup last season.
