PROOF that Blackwater has great plans for him, gunner Allein Maliksi is set to sign a two-year max contract with the franchise this week.
Maliksi’s camp said the 30-year-old former University of Santo Tomas stalwart will ink his new deal with the Elite this Friday worth P10 million.
Team owner Dioceldo Sy later confirmed the deal before flying to Vancouver, Canada on Tuesday.
“We know how capable a player Maliksi is that we offer him a two-year deal,” said Sy.
Maliksi immediately showed his value to the Elite the moment he joined the team in the latter part of the PBA Governors Cup following a trade with Star in exchange for BamBam Gamalinda and Kyle Pascual.
The four-time league champion was quickly put in the starting unit by coach Leo Isaac and became the team’s top option on offense.
Maliksi became instrumental in Blackwater reaching the playoffs of the season-ending meet, where it forced top-seed Meralco to a sudden-death game for a berth in the semifinals, which the Elite unfortunately lost.
Despite falling short, Blackwater management didn’t hesitate to give Maliksi a renewal contract.
The return of Maliksi assured the Elite of a competitive starting unit for the coming new season alongside big men John Paul Erram, sophomore Mac Belo, the much improved Mike DiGregorio, and Roi Sumang.
Notable players coming off the bench are KG Canaleta, Chris Ellis, Dave Marcelo, John Pinto, Mark Cruz, James Sena, and possibly, rookie Reymar Jose, who was picked third overall by the team in the recent rookie draft.
Sy said the team has offered Jose, the PBA D-League MVP from Cignal and Far Eastern University, a two-year contract.
