CHICAGO— The calendar is getting tight for Blackwater.
In 14 days, the PBA 50th Season Governors' Cup begins. Five days after that, the contract of Sedrick Barefield expires.
COLUMN: Wantaway Barefield's next destination: SMB, Ginebra, or TNT?
With the clock ticking and an impatient, disgruntled star showing no signs of interest in signing a contract extension, an impasse looms.
With a potential Mikey Williams type of headache in their hands, the Bossing have frantically begun the process of moving the No.2 overall pick of the 2024 PBA Rookie Draft.
BAREFIELD TO CONVERGE?
Per multiple sources, Blackwater recently reached out Converge offering the 6-foot-2 point guard in exchange for two players and alleged cash considerations.
The FiberXers’ interest, however, is as lukewarm as leftover coffee from yesterday’s pot.
Converge. I am told, refuses to part with the four assets the Bossing proposed in two trade variations including a star player.
Also, the FiberXers do have the aforementioned Williams in their roster and bringing in a player with the same skill-set is not paramount.
A LONG SHOT.
If anything, a Williams-Barefield combo, while appealing on paper, could create duplicity of roles and playing time issues on the court.
The talks are still ongoing but the chances of a deal coming to fruition is as nil as me scoring a dinner date with the impossibly gorgeous Ivana Alawi.
Moving Barefield isn’t the only task keeping the Blackwater front office busy these days.
Also on the burner is a proposal from NLEX, which is reportedly offering Brandon Ramirez and Xyrus Torres for Christian David.

That swap appears to be a long shot, one-sided as a rigged election ls.
Meanwhile, San Miguel Beer, which is rumored to soon retire the once-brilliant but now 41-year old Chris Ross, is interested in Dalph Panopio, sources told.
Blackwater has some tough decisions to make.
